Located in the Garraf Massif Nature Reserve, very close to the town of Avinyó del Penedès, the Can Ràfols dels Caus winery boasts one of the most spectacular estates in the entire Penedès region. Although historically the estate dates back to Roman times, it wasn't until the 1980s that Carlos Esteva began planting different grape varieties.
The Garraf Massif Nature Reserve imparts its unique characteristics to wines made from organically grown grapes. This is the hallmark of Can Ràfols dels Caus wines: to let nature run its course.
The philosophy of Can Ràfols dels Caus comes down to this: whatever you do, always do it well. The winery's entire production lives up to this motto.
The estate covers 455 hectares, but only 20% is used to grow grapes. The vineyards consist of plots ranging from 1/2 to 2 hectares and are home to the 28 varieties that go into making the winery's reds, whites and rosés: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada. The winery's star grape, however, is Merlot. The wines that form part of Qalidès come from a single terroir: Finca Can Ràfols dels Caus
Elegant wines with minerality, complexity and structure. The wines have wonderful aging potential and are made from grapes grown in completely organic vineyards on four biodynamic plots and fermented on indigenous yeasts.
Can Ràfols produces 20 different wines, each one bearing their vintner's signature: natural wines. Carlos Esteva is one of the few winemakers in Spain who lives on site year round, among vineyards and barrels. For him, the landscape, the vines and the wine are an art onto themselves...and he is an art lover. One look at his wine labels says it all.
